FDA approves Odactra for house dust mite allergies!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Odactra, the first allergen extract to be administered under the tongue  to treat house dust mite (HDM)-induced nasal inflammation. See below for highlights from the press release:
-First allergen extract to be approved for oral (under the tongue) use
– For treatment in patients 18-65 years of age
– An alternative to allergy shots
– House dust mites are tiny insects related to ticks and spiders
– Year round symptoms
– One pill daily, taken year round, can take 8-14 weeks to notice improvement
– First dose to be administered in doctor’s office with 30 minutes of supervision after and then once a day at home
– Similar pills available for grass and ragweed allergy
